Inflorescence. Coffea canephora Pierre ex A.Froehner, syn. Coffea robusta L.Linden. Rubiaceae. CN: Kopi robusta, Robusta coffee. Commonly known as robusta coffee is a species of coffee that has its origins in central and western sub-Saharan Africa. Though widely known as Coffea robusta, the plant is scientifically identified as Coffea canephora, which has two main varieties, robusta and nganda. The species is rather adventive in Kedah, particularly in Sik district, where it was once cultivated rather widely as cash crop before the introduction of Hevea rubber. In 2019, NESCAFÉ launched their Grown Respectfully programme in Kedah to rejuvenate and drive sustainability and enhance the lives of coffee farmers. To date, 100 farmers have been trained and 70,000 coffee seedlings have been planted, while a collection centre has also been established for future harvests.
