5.52: my first hand-knit::sewn-item swap
I made this for Danielle (aswiminknits) as part of a swap. I thought I'd do a descriptive blog post about the alterations I made on this bag, but I just don't see it happening. So, here is the long and short of it:
-Amy Butler's free yoga mat bag pattern on her website.
-Great, detailed pattern.
-I lengthened it by five inches to accommodate a drawstring closure. (The pattern leaves it open and I thought that was odd.)
-I made a thinner strap (3.25 inches wide when finished).
-Inside, attached to the lining, I made a little tab with a D-ring so that Danielle can clip a zip pouch into the bag without the pouch getting lost in there.
-I used the Splityarn zip pouch/wristlet tutorial to make a matchy zip pouch. I used the exact measurements provided. The only change was that I added some hardware--lobster clasp?- because I felt like getting fancy and Danielle is worth it. {I will say it again--that is the best free zip pouch tutorial the interwebs have to offer.}
-When you attach the strap to the top of the bag, you have to sew through a ton of layers and I could barely fit it all under my presser foot. That part sucked but otherwise I enjoyed the process and learned some new things.
-I was afraid to attach the circular bottom, but it was easy b/c her instr. were great.
-I would only do this in home dec fabric for the outer fabric. This is AMH Innocent Crush. Lining is Tula Pink's Parisville (with interfacing for sturdiness) and the two are super matchy.
That is all. And I said that I was going to be brief.
