London, UK – Friday 22nd November 2013 – Active Communities Network partners the Rio Ferdinand Foundation and Fight for Change charities celebrated success at the Houses of Parliament today as young people on their boxing and training programme at Phipps Bridge were presented with their ‘Level 2 Gym Instructor’ certificates.

The Rio Ferdinand Foundation - based in London and Manchester - creates, delivers and drives positive change in young people through frontline community projects, education and training and Fight for Change uses boxing in inner cities and socially excluded communities to engage young people in positive activities, deliver personal and social development projects and promote volunteering and citizenship with a club and community environment.

Rio Ferdinand Foundation trustees and staff were at the House of Commons to attend the certificate presentation ceremony hosted and sponsored by Siobhain McDonagh MP for Mitcham and Morden and which was also attended by a variety of partners and supporters including funders, the police, youth services and young people themselves.

The event, in partnership with Fight for Change, saw young people on the Fight for Change YOT/NEET sessions from the Phipps Bridge Estate in Mitcham and Morden receive certificates for passing a range of qualifications and accreditations including the ‘Level 2 Gym Instructor’ course which the Rio Ferdinand Foundation, through the Evening Standard Dispossessed Fund and alongside the Metropolitan Police, supported.

Former Super Middleweight boxer Michael Watson was unveiled at the event as a Fight for Change Ambassador and a small group of guests and coaches attended an All-Party Parliamentary Group on Boxing meeting earlier on discussing ways in which the Government can support community boxing.
