Three Chinese People's Liberation Army-Navy ships Yi Yang, Chang Zhou and Qian Dao Hu, arrived at Garden Island, Sydney in Dec 2012. The Ships were headed by Rear Admiral Zhou Xu-Ming, Commander of the Chinese Naval Task Group, and were welcomed by China's Ambassador to Australia, His Excellency Mr Chen Yuming, the Chinese Defence Attache Senior Colonel Zhou Ming, and Commanding Officer of HMAS KUTTABUL, Commander Todd Willson.

The Ships are making the four day port visit on their return to China from counter-piracy duties in the Gulf of Aden. During the visit, Chinese and Australian Naval representatives will take the opportunity to share lessons learnt during counter-piracy operations. China is an important partner for Australia in the region, with the two nations sharing a positive and constructive defence relationship.
