Aug. 1 is National Water Balloon Day! Did you know the ‘water bomb’ was created in 1950 when Edgar Ellington tried to invent a waterproof sock to prevent trench foot? Frustrated because his latex covered sock leaked when filled it with water, he threw it down and it exploded. He decided to market the idea as a child’s toy instead of trench foot protection.
