Absolute Beginners wants YOU!
Wanted: Artist, Launch Organizer and 2 video editors to join the Absolute Beginners team
Join our team as a party organizer, artist or video editor.
What’s in it for you?
This is something we are doing because we are inspired by music and teaching people to play and sing. Like us, you will be doing it for love, to be part of something fun, and to learn new skills, rather than for the cash. Be part of a team of fun-loving, creative people who want to use the magic of the interwebs to get absolute beginners to discover the joy of playing music.
What we need (more detail below):
Launch organizer: help us arrange and host our two launches in London - one uke workshop and one launch party with live bands and other performers.
Artist: Make posters and invites for the launches, add some artwork for our youtube channel and facebook page, take pics, and generally capture the spirit of love, generosity and rock and roll in any way that that grabs you.
Video editors: Two video editors to edit the tutorials that we are recording and upload them to the Youtube channel. Nothing too fancy, just stitching together clips, adding some titles, chord shape diagrams etc.
The Keenest Beginner in the World: Someone who has never played a musical instrument but is dead keen to learn. This person will test out the tutorials and learn the songs. The plan is for this person to make a tutorial by Friday 2 March. Why? To show how quickly one can learn AND how easy it is to teach people to play an easy but awesome song.
Who we are
Absolute Beginners is a music teaching and sharing community inspired by love, generosity and rock and roll.

Basically, the plan is record and upload 10 (or more) video tutorials by Friday 2 March 2012 and have a uke workshop and a launch party in late February / March.
So far, our team is:
· Kevin, Chief and founder. Kevin is a lawyer, who was inspired to do this after he learned to play the ukelele, mainly using tutorials generous people had made in their bedrooms. He also has a very impressive fancy dress box. (He is in South Africa until Feb 26, so if you are in SA and want to get involved, let us know.)
· Barnaby, Tutors Whip. Barnaby is a mathematician and plays in a band called Triple Distilled. He is soon heading off on travel and adventure, travel guitar slung over his shoulder, with his wife Colleen.
· Paul, Producer. Paul is an IT specialist for a charity and lives on a canalboat with his wife Erica and their cat Rizzi. Paul can fix anything.
· Emily, Evangelist. Emily is a leading light in the burgeoning Brighton Kanzashi scene (see www.cuttlefishlove.co.uk, www.etsy.com/shop/cuttlefishlove and www.folksy.com/shops/cuttlefishlove). She breathes (through her gills) social networking and life in general. She is the titular Fishwoman in the band, Fishwoman and the Tentacles (a band loved and feared in equal measure).
· Ele, Secretary. aka Cap’n Ele. Ele is a discourse analyst (for her sins) and English Teacher (for her further sins). Ele is also in Fishwoman and the Tentacles and has a tremendous pout.
· Andre, Music Director. Our newest addition, Andre is a drummer and has the coolest icon for his vcard we have ever seen.
Join Today! Don’t delay!
Would you like to join us? Become a tentacle on the Absolute Beginners octopus. You will preferably based in Brighton or London with Cape Town and Johannesburg also very favourable. Mail us on absolutebeginners2012@gmail.com right away. If you are intrigued but want to find out more, do not delay, e-mail us and we will tell you everything you want to know!
More about the roles:
· Launch organiser: this party animal will be responsible for the two launches we are planning in London for late Feb or March. Launch 1 will be a fabulous Absolute Beginners uke workshop and jam, led by one of the Absolute Beginners tutors. Launch 2 will be a launch, gig and party, where bands some of the tutors are in will play and we will generally have a stomping party to celebrate the launch. Planning is already underway with Paul in the lead and he will be there to help make it happen.
· Artist: the artist will be responsible for designing the posters, possibly channel design, dollying up announcements and notices with logos, pretty pictures and awesome fonts, and generally injecting a bit of punk rock spirit into the business of learning to play and sing.
· Video editors x 2. Stitching the footage together into an awesome tutorial and possibly adding some visual aids like chord shapes. We don’t need a pro; in fact if this is something you want to learn to do then this might be great place to learn. The idea of Absolute Beginners is to learn something you have never tried before, and that doesn’t stop at the music.
· The Keenest Beginner in the World: A genuine Absolute Beginner who is learning and will try out all the tutorials and then record response videos describing the learning process. Things like how long it took, what was hard, what was easy and what you would like to see in other tutorials.
Time commitment
· At present, Absolute Beginners is fuelled entirely by love, generosity and a love of making music. So there is no financial remuneration. However, with the alignment of Evangelist Emily, shamelessly plugging your own projects will be encouraged, as long as it is in the spirit of Absolute Beginners.
· You don’t necessarily need to do it all yourself. Absolute Beginners is about being a team, sharing and community. So you can get your friends involved as well. If you like idea of being, say, the artist, but are kind of busy, get your friends involved and divvy it up. However, if you join the team you will be responsible for that role.
· we have weekly team calls via Skype or a free conference line facility for 30 mins, currently Mon 7.30 to 8pm (UK time) and it will be helpful if you can be on most of the calls.
