Averroes statue next to old walls of Cordoba
Averroes is the latinization by which he is known, his real name being Abu I-Walid Muhammad ibn Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Rushd. He was born in Córdoba in 1126 and died in Marrakech in 1198, expelled by the Almohad extremists for defending the Aristotelian theory. His studies and work will be related to fields as disparate as philosophy, law, medicine, mathematics or astronomy.
The sculpture was made by Pablo Yusti Conejo in 1967.

El nació en Córdoba en 1126 y falleció en Marrakech en 1198, expulsado por los extremistas almohades por defender la teoría aristotélica. Sus estudios y trabajos estarán relacionados con campos tan dispares como la filosofía, las leyes, la medicina, las matemáticas o la astronomía.
