Rochester at Night

This is the view of Rochester, NY from the Ford Street bridge over the Genesee river.

I spent about 10 years in Rochester, so I knew this view well. It's a very popular spot to watch the 4th of July fireworks. A business trip brought me back to the city. I packed my camera with the plan to take some shots of the Kodak building downtown. On my way back to my hotel I went ahead and stopped for this view.

I pulled into a nearby hospital parking lot, got my tripod and camera out, and went trudging through the snow in my tennis shoes and light jacket. A security guard called me over to explain that I couldn't park there. He then asked if I was going to take a photo from the bridge. Seeing from the way I was dressed that I would not be out in the below freezing weather for long, he kindly let me go take the shot.

So there it is. A little local contrast enhancements in Photoshop and then B&W conversion in NIK Silver Efex Pro 2 brought the city to life.
