Iris

Iris is my family's standard-sized (all the others are minis) black dachshund. Iris came to us via a dachshund rescue program along with her daughter Izzy from all the way across the US. Unfortunately, Iris passed away on the morning of September 27, 2006 as a result of an improper prescription for antibiotics given to her by a vet. Needless to say, I was crushed and have been an emotional wreck since then (slowly recovering).

My fondest memory of Iris is from the day we brought her home. Iris' first order of business (i.e. as soon as she got through the front door) was to charge past her buddy Izzy (who came a few days before her and was eager to greet her) and search the house for food. Iris would go on and continue her unending quest for food by scouring the house every day no matter how much we fed her (and how much weight she gained!), and came to be affectionally referred to by me and my girlfriend as "fat dachshund." the nickname was particularly suitable after Iris had a stint on the dinner table...someone left one of the chairs slightly pulled out from underneath the table and Iris daringly made it onto the dinner table and ate all of our food. you could literally see her bulging afterwards!

I've posted this photo of Iris so that I can share with everyone that which has brought me so much joy and happiness over the two years that she was with my family. I miss you so much Iris.
