Moonrise Kingdom

The moon rises, a small solar light illuminates our tent, and the stars spin over Mt. Shuksan during a long exposure.

This vantage point was exposed and quite windy. Sarah came out and kept me company for a bit, but as soon as the wine was gone.....so was she ;) I was in the middle of an exposure and didn't really want a headlamp trail back to the tent in this image. The moon came up from behind the mountain, and we left the 'porch light' on, so she was able to make her way back to camp.

I had planned for an even longer exposure, and hadn't planned on the moon rising. When it did, I gave it another minute or two and then tripped the shutter to avoid overexposure. As with shooting film, I didn't know what impact the rising moon made. I'm happy that it allowed the stars to shine while lighting the rest of the kingdom and our little temporary residence.
