County Hunting Pal

County Hunting is one of the many aspects of amateur radio. The goal of County Hunting is to make a confirmed two way radio contact with a station in each of the 3077 counties in the United States.

I believe I gave my friend Row from Chiba Japan 14 rare counties. He had been chasing them for over 20 years. Each afternoon (dawn in Japan) we would meet up on the 10 meter (28Mhz) voice Ham band and he would ask "Where are you today Davysan?. On the above conformation cards I was doing my telephone tech chores in the Wyoming counties of Teton, Lincoln, Fremont and Hot Springs and the rare Utah counties of Piute, Garfield, Kane, Emery and Summit. From my work truck I also gave him some rare Idaho counties.

Row always seemed tickled pink and for a few years he sent me Christmas gifts of candy and beautiful calendars from JA land (Japan). I sure hope that one day on his QSL card he will be able to display a bold 'WAC' for Worked All Counties.

Ham it Up!

As I get around a bit and enjoy flickr, I’m thinking of working each county I travel with photos of county courthouses (a new group for me on flickr).

That will help fill up the map on the group homepage of flickr.com/groups/countycourthouses/

or see the map itself Here.
