the lost main line says: Rebirth of a great locomotive. No preserved locomotive runs forever - boiler certificates and the cost of repairs make sure of that - but Ellerman Lines (and Thomas the Tank Engine!) will inspire future generations of railway enthusiasts to keep them going by showing how steam locomotives worked.

the lost main line says: A sad image of the end of steam. So many lost locomotives. The Merchant Navy Class were great survivors, eleven escaped from the breakers yard 35005/6/9/10/11/18/22/25/27/28/29.

the lost main line says: In the early 1960s I went on holiday to Bournemouth and Ellerman lines was the first "foreign" (not NE or LNER) I liked. I loved the names of the merchant navy class evocative of exciting ports and voyages to far away places and I still think Oliver Bullied's wheels are a work of art even if his valve gear didn't work very well.

the lost main line says: For me long rail journeys were always trips to the seaside. We went by bus to Whitby and Scarborough and by train to Bournemouth. I always looked forward to the train journey and it made the holiday seem longer.
