Mom's Hands

20.52 Construction

My mother finishing off a clay work -- a Luminaria. It's a decorative piece meant to hold a candle and the carving allows for beautiful light play.

She's not much for throwing plates or cups, though she'll build goblets from time to time. What she loves most is the feel of the clay, from the initial pounding and rolling (which is hard work), through the process of building, often followed by carving. Ultimately, the firing ensues. While she ocassionally glazes, her first love is clay in its natural state.
