On Top Of The World
Its about time I uploaded a new species to my stream! The Small Skipper are real posers and always produce beautiful photos but unfortunately, i didnt pay them as much attention as I probably should have in 2010. In fact, this was the only day i actually got a decent photo of one. I had so many trips to new sites for specific species that i kind of neglected the more common ones. Taken at Oxhouse Farm, I was more than preoccupied with chasing the Dark Green Fritillary around. However, as i was having a lunch break, this little fella decided to stop by. The size of the flower literally dwarfs this tiny butterfly but everything is very symmetrical and centered so i figured a controversial central composition would work best. It also works well as a portrait but im really not keen on those (who knows why!). Ive been holding many of my photos back because they look better as portraits, so perhaps they'll make an appearance some time soon. This shot isn’t as sharp as id like, due to the wider angle and the crop, but I think it gives a real sense of scale. The Small Skipper really is small!
Ive spent the last few days searching through the archives to find some more shots to upload. However, ive now caught a cold (which I really hope doesn’t turn into this flu that everyone seems to have had) and feel like crap so the next upload might be a week or so away. Will try my best.
