Garratt locomotives
Class GEA Garratt locomotive number 4023 "Peacock" (built 1945-1947 by Beyer Peacock, Manchester, UK) and Class GO Garratt locomotive number 2575 (built 1953 by Henschel und Sohn, Kassel, Germany), both 4-8-2+2-8-4 wheel formation, at the Outeniqua Transport Museum, George, South Africa. Incredibly the first locomotive (Peacock) is manually fired; the Class GO by contrast has a mechanical stoker.
In the background, part of Class GF Garratt 4-6-2+2-6-4 locomotive number 2401 (built 1927 by Hannoversche Maschinenbau, Germany) is just visible.
The Transport Museum is a wonderful collection, primarily an internationally significant collection of locomotives, rolling stock and railwayana, together with cars and some airplane memorabilia. All that's missing is live steam...
