"Switcher Saturday"
From last summer, on July 3, 2024, GMTX SW1500 #173 -- one of two engines currently in use on VRS-owned New York & Ogdensburg -- leads its one-car train west for Ogdensburg, NY, crossing the Raquette River at Norwood.
This line between Ogdensburg and Norwood has quite the interesting history. Originally built as the Ogdensburg and Lake Champlain (O&LC), it was most famously a part of the Rutland Railroad, ran across the very top of New York State, then came down the "Island Line" to Burlington. Today, everything between Norwood and Burlington is gone, leaving this small portion the only remnant. Before VRS came along, this line was operated by the St. Lawrence & Raquette River, and -- for a brief period of time before that -- the Ogdensburg & Norwood.
(For the record, the above was NOT copied and pasted from Wikipedia. It's just stuff I've memorized at this point, and -- for me -- trying to hold it back is like trying to hold back a sneeze...)
