New Book!

I'm very excited to finally be able to announce this book! I think this was kind of a nervous energy project while Carly was pregnant with Asher, lol. Including reviewing slides, this book was mainly written between 9 PM and 11 PM on weeknights during the Fall of 2022. Originally, Morning Sun Books agreed to publish it as "Trackside Around New York's Capital Region." When Morning Sun got out of the active publishing business, Rudy Garbely of the Garbely Publishing Company rescued the project. It will now be a two-volume, softcover book titled, "Capital Region Rails" (1960s to 1990s), with Volume 1 coming out this Spring!

Unlike my first book (with Morning Sun), this one won't really have any of my own photos. However, that wasn't the purpose of this book. What inspired me to do this book was seeing many of Jim "Iron Man" Connor's railroad photos he took around the Capital Region from the late 1960s and 1970s. I wanted to make sure that these images were preserved beyond seeing them at Jim's annual slide show. The project then expanded to include work by Jeff Plant, Jeremy Plant, Jack Wright, John Sesonske, Gardiner Cross, and Dean Splittgerber.

One of my favorite things about the geographic specificity of this book was that it allowed me to devote more attention to branch lines that have sometimes been overlooked in books that cover a wider geographical area. For Volume 1, that includes lines such as the D&H Waterford / Green Island Branch, the D&H Adirondack Branch, the B&M Troy Branch, the Penn Central / Conrail Troy Industrial Track, Fort Orange Paper Company in Castleton-On-Hudson, and even a small amount of the New York Central / Penn Central Upper Harlem Division.

Link for pre-ordering is below. Any questions about that process should be directed to the Garbely Publishing Company.

Otherwise, I'm happy to answer any questions about the content of the book! (As I have time!)
