CSX P001 at Little Falls, NY

I think there was a discussion recently that F40s and the like qualify for "F-unit Friday," so I guess this fits the bill!

I had already planned on spending at least one day on CSX's Mohawk Subdivision this spring, and with a beautiful stretch of weather and some vacation time set aside, I took Tuesday, May 10th off to do just that. While one of the most pleasant surprises of the day was SD40-2 #8054 leading both Q626 and Q627, I knew ahead of time that the prize of the day would be CSX's OCS running west in the afternoon. As is typical with OCS trains, the estimated departure from Selkirk kept getting bumped up (originally in the 5:00 PM hour, but eventually bumped up to around 3:00 PM), so therefore my location of choice kept moving west in hopes of better light. I decided on Little Falls by the old brick factory building--one of my favorite late afternoon locations on the Mohawk Subdivision.

While others tried for multiple locations, I didn't want to play with fire and just picked one. So, I arrived in Little Falls well in advance to make sure the scene was fine, and it's a good thing I did because I couldn't believe how much brush had grown up in the foreground since my last visit in 2017! I hacked away at it with clippers and my hands for a good long time until I was satisfied with the once-again-open view. Not wanting to miss the train, I kept my camera on me during my battle with the brush and unfortunately lost a lens cap at some point. At the end of the day, it was a small price to pay...
