Lucky Duckling
A mallard duck keeping a very close eye on her one remaining duckling. Together with the rest of her brood it fell down a sheer drop of around 20 feet into a concrete culvert. Most perished, but this one was OK so ladders were fetched and it was rescued then released onto the pond. It soon started calling and within seconds the mother arrived. Last seen two days later enjoying a caviar banquet as the rudd in the pond spawned.
The pond - and culvert - were in the grounds of our holiday accommodation in Newnham, Gloucestershire.
