Lycus sp.

A net-winged beetle in Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens. I tried to identify to species level but there seems to be so much controversy and mislabelled images on the Web that I gave up. Lycus ampliatus is a candidate but I'm by no means certain.

The common name of the Lycidae family comes from the elytra, which have a distinctive shape and are covered by a complex pattern of veins. I've certainly never seen anything like it before.
