Flexibility

Following on from some comments on another posting about the inconvenience of the 'artificial' breaks in the line at Ormskirk and Ellesmere Port due to the limits of electrification, I thought I'd post this shot.

The train is a Bombardier diesel-electric hybrid on Brittany Regional Rail at Landernau, which works the route from Brest to Quiberon. On the Brest-Paris line it runs off the overhead cables, but on the Quiberon branch, which isn't electrified, the diesel engine kicks in. Trains such as this could provide direct services between Liverpool and Helsby or Liverpool and Deeside or even Wrexham.
