MOUNTAIN HARE
The Inglorious Twelfth.......
We're lucky to have the Mountain Hare in Derbyshire. There is nothing quite like being able to sit yards away from them dressed in their winter pelage, their amber eyes glistening in the sunshine. Of course, others think different. Trapped, shot and hunted with dogs in order to remove them from the moors. They carry a tick, though not harmful to themselves, it can prove fatal to the grouse population. And that's why, in the opinion of these individuals, they need to be exterminated along with the harrier, badger, fox, you name it.
