The reader ("anagnostis" or "diavastes")
The reader is a person who has the responsibility of reading aloud the biblic texts during a liturgical service. Here the reader of the Orthodox monastery of St. Catherine at Sinai is reading the "Apostole" in the 6th century's "katholikon" (main church) during an all-night lasting service (the so called "agrypnia") at the day of the memory of st. Catherine 's martyr (November 25th).
