Custom Lego Pirates of The Caribbean: Davy Jones
Oh boy did I forget how much I love this character. Brickophilia reminded me of the Pirates franchise with his Barbarossa yesterday, and remembered how much I love Davy Jones, both character and character design wise. Anyways, I ended up doing all the sculpting yesterday, and then painted him today. In case you don't know this character, here is a reference image: vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/vsbattles/images/3/3e/Davy_Jo...
All of the tentacles on the "beard", hand, claw, the part of the claw around the forearm was sculpted from Green Stuff. The "peg leg" was also sculpted out of Green Stuff, but over a toothpick armature. The texture on the claw hand was done by pushing the bristles of a brush into the sculpt.
The head is removable. I used tape under the sculpt when I was making it so the tentacles would not stick to the torso when i went to take it off. The claw hand can also still rotate, as it was just sculpted over a normal minifig hand.
The fabric bits were made from a Lego pirate ship sail and cape, and include the coat, undershirt, the red belt and tassel hanging down. The main belt, the boot cuff, and the cuff of the right sleeve is made from e-tape. A detail I noticed while looking at reference is that his coat is only worn like a coat on his right side. On his left side, the claw is to big to allow a sleeve, so he just wears it over his shoulder like a cloak, and I think I've replicated that well. Since this image, I have also added some more gunk to the back, and added the dangling sleeve. You can see it the changes at the link below.
This was entirely painted by me. He was given several washes and dry brushes of various colors. The back of the head looks a little rough without the hat since the hat rubs paint the paint.
What do you think? Comments are appreciated.
EDIT: Since this post, I have mad changes to this figure, and added some missed/ more details. The changes can be seen here: www.instagram.com/p/BlReWaOAgxX/?taken-by=themoosefigs
