Brent Goose Branta bernicla - Up, Up And Away
It was lovely to see this solitary Brent Goose feeding in the mud at the edge of the water on a receding tide at Lepe showing its great wingspan as it prepared to leave. They relish Eelgrass which grows at Lepe, as well as algae and saltmarsh plants like glasswort. This Brent Goose is from the dark bellied race which is a winter visitor and passage migrant in southern England mainly from Oct.-April. I photographed this one mid April.
