Western Hedgehog Erinaceus europaeus - A Helping Hand

This year's Autumn Watch highlighted the plight of our Western Hedgehog whose numbers have plummeted year on year in the past few years. During the same week this young female was wandering about during the daytime looking disorientated. I took her to our local centre to be checked where it was deemed that she was underweight and dehydrated. Mortality is c60-70% during the first year of life due mainly to starvation whilst hibernating. Without help from the centre it is unlikely that she would survive winter.
