Comma Polygonia c-album
Perched high on the tip of a fern, this Comma displayed the lovely ragged outline of its wings. This is a Hutchinsoni form. My thanks to Tim Melling.
Hutchinsoni are a brighter golden form of Comma produced by the earliest caterpillars to develop in spring. They are not on the wing for long but quickly pair, lay eggs and die whereas with the darker, more profific Comma live for ten months and breed the following spring.
