Silver-washed Fritillary Argynnis paphia

Gliding in and out of the dappled shade before descending from the open canopy of Bentley Wood like a precious but transient piece of gold leaf confetti, this early Silver-washed Fritillary finally settled revealing both the beautiful markings and delicate water-washed colouring of its underwings as well as the magnificent gold of its large upperwings accentuated here by the males four bold black sex brands on the veins of each forewing.
