TEM7A 0125 Shakhtinsk Colliery System Coal Enrichment Plant no1. 15th May 2024.
Moving away from the Shakhtinsk area Central Coal Enrichment Plant no.1 at Kyzhyl with a long string of empty wagons is the massive 180 tonne eight axle TEM7A-0125. Behind is a lighter forbearer, a modified TEM2, TEM2U-9750 waiting its turn with a shunting move. The ownership of this colliery network and the preparation plant recently changed hands from Arcelor Mittal to a new Government - private funded venture - Qarmet as part of a handover of mining interests connected with the Temirtau steelmaking complex which this area supplies with coal.

During our evening meal the night prior we had discussed our mixed fortunes around Shakhtinsk and decided that we had been treated badly, and a part of it was down to luck. As far as being challenged and evicted by the big man in his 4x4 and the Ochrona... Well... had he not driven past at the moment I took a photo of the mine shaft with my DSLR? And all things considered, we were on public property. So, having seen the possibilities we have decided to return, to try again for a train set in the mining landscape, with the shafts and all the bleakness as a backdrop. Jane is also with us today. Well will take the risk and try our luck. There is of course no hiding place for the Industrial Railway Photographer. Our first stop naturally is the Central Enrichment Plant. Sven really wants a photo of a green TEM2, they are not common and these here are the first we have come across, even here, most are blue. But also we are just in time to capture the awesome TEM7A pulling out with a long string of empty wagons, and the enrichment plant exhausts steam, something it did not the day before and the ghost insignia of the previous owners sits against the near top right of the white building.
