Kazakhstan part 2: Karagandy oblast. 2TE10V 4259 leaving the Molodezhnyy mine Karaganda oblast. 13th May 2024.

The A section of 2TE10V-4259 leaves the approach to the Molodezhnyy mine in Karaganda Oblast with three side tippers. This is the Industrial line from Nura, near Karaganda and the main line transfer, to Kushoky, where the depot and offices are situated, to a large opencast coal mine just beyond Molodezhnyy, a sum total of around 100km over the Northern Kazakh Steppe. This locomotive dates from 1978, from the Voroshilovgrad Octoberrevolution Locomotive works in Lugansk and works for the Industrial Transportation Concern Tranco Nura LLP and based at Kushoky. May the 13th 2024.

I did not think I would ever see a TE10 of the V variant. The last one in Russia became well known worked a transfer from a furniture factory in Moskva Oblast. It was retired a few years ago.

Driving south west from Ekibastuz, we took the approach road to the mine from the main road, pulling up in the gatehouse carpark. It did not look like a place that would be friendly to us. Every vehicle going in was searched and photographed inside and out. We could see the rail yard clearly, the line curved through 90 degrees at the gatehouse to parallel the approach road, a distance of a couple of kilometres. As we discussed our lack of options, a TE10 in the yard pulled out, passing the carpark on its way out. We took immediate chase. I saw the headlamp and front number plate configuration and knew right there, this is not the usual M varient! Excited like the child who once saw his first 56 from York station as child as my dad said no, it is just a 47, that is until until he read the number, I just knew what it was. Here it rolls past us, identity confirmed, with as far I was concerned the grace and beauty of a ballet dancer, it has three side tippers in tow. I never knew it was here.
