Afternoon Rowntrees Halt workers train, 15th April 1987

Lincoln based Derby Heavyweight class114 DMU formed by cars 54023 and 53037 pulls away from Rowntrees Halt just off the Scarborough line in York. The train is the 16:35 for Doncaster and ran to take factory workers home to Selby and had a corresponding inbound working in the morning. By this time the run round loops are rusty as Rowntrees had pulled out of railfreight ,the last rain running on March the 13th 1987, partly after BR quoted a prohibitive price to renew the junction at Burton Lane and told them they would have to pay! The passenger service lasted just over a year, the final train running as a commemorative special on July the 8th 1988,though the branch survived until 1989 with very occasional traffic to the Layerthorpe depot of Appletons fuels. Today a cycle path runs along the route, yuo can still peer over the bridge parapet here but the factory has contracted east and the buildings behind have been razed, awaiting redevelopment as housing. April the 15th 1987..
