Whistle post
Prompted by Mr. Finch's photo flic.kr/p/2okeoUr here is an example of a whistle sign from the local railroad crossing in Houston. As can be seen in the distance, there is another road crossing not far down the track. The W is a reminder to sound the locomotive horn in advance of that crossing. This photo is taken at the same location as a recent post of a UP freight approaching from down the track.
