Big metal bird
A flying start to 2023 (Part Three).
Taken through the terminal building at Amarillo Airport, this KC 135 Stratotanker was one of two doing low pass, go-around, training circuits at the field. Attached to the 54th Air Refueling Squadron out of AFB Altus, Oklahoma, the aircraft was built in 1963. Now with new CFM engines and the fleet number 37977, the aircraft was a fine sight. For completeness, the other aircraft involved carried the fleet number 00348.
The aviation bods might be able to confirm what refueling equipment can be seen at the back and also explain the lettering 'AMW'?
