Thrift

Thrift was blooming profusely on the Isle of Portland today. The clue to the plant's habitat is in the scientific name, Armeria maritima. As well as sea cliffs, it thrives on very poor soil areas close to the ocean such as in this photo. It is also commonly found on salt marshes.
