As far as I know, this is a Ghost Crab, Ocypode ceratophthalm or maybe Ocypode quadrata. They are also known locally as Sand Crab, White Crab or Mole Crab, one of dozens of crab species that live along the Gulf Coast. Ghost Crabs are so called because the overall colour matches that of the sand. In fact, I never saw this one until almost stepping on the creature. That made it break cover for safety where it then 'froze' amongst some vegetation.
