Neotinea tridentata
Neotinea tridentata (Orchidaceae) 119 23
This is the title member of the Neotinea tridentata group whose name means "three teeth" and refers to the canine-like points on the hood.
Neotinea tridentata (three-toothed orchid) is a species of orchid found in southern Europe from Spain to Turkey; northwards to the Crimea, Poland and Germany.
This orchid is a common orchid with a widespread range similar to that of Neotinea lactea though it is somewhat rarer in the west and increases in frequency as it travels eastwards. Its distribution is not however fully understood due to confusion with other group members.
This orchid likes full sun or mid-shade conditions and will grow in open grassland and open woodland or even in quite dense thickets.
It flowers from March until the end of April.
