Frodsham - Last of the Pegs
Arriva Trains Wales Coradia Class 175103 passes Frodsham signal box with the 1H83 (07:45) Llandudno – Manchester airport service on the last day of operation of the Victorian levers and semaphores. Not all is lost though. The re-signalling is a result of re-opening the 1.5-mile Halton Curve branch to regular passengers since 1975. The line connects the Chester to Warrington line at Frodsham Junction at the southern end and the Liverpool branch at the West Coast line at its northern end. The re-opening of the line to regular services is considered to be a substantial economic boost to the local economy with new commuter flows and leisure activities. As a result, bi-directional signalling to restore the curve has necessitated replacement of the semaphores with colour lights together with a new control panel in the signal box - www.pressreader.com/uk/rail-uk/20170802/281608125515018
