So much has changed

During the winter of 1989, it was business as usual for the P&W. There wasn't a great amount of snow, which helped everyone in the world of New England railroading. P&W's Worcester based local WX-1 was a 3 man job, servicing all customers in the local area usually featuring GE U18B 1801 and GP-9 1702 as power. On January 29, 1989 train WX-1 is shown crossing Lower Millbury St, now the location of Wal-Mart near Rte 146. The entire scene is a far cry from what it is today. U18B 1801 is has pulled one empty boxcar from Tomra Industries, formerly located in the old American Steel in Worcester, MA.
