On the branch
Long before the P&W serviced the Gardner branch on a daily basis, it was a rare treat to catch a daylight run. Most of the time, the night roadtrains PRWO or NRWO would forward the days' traffic overnight to the ST Guilford interchange. This particular Friday, October 4, 1991 a MFS-4 was called with MLW M-420 2004 to make the run. Engineer Chris Devlin and conductor Ed Richard are southbound slowing at Old Westminster Rd in Hubbardston, MA to pick up one lone empty from the now defunct Wachusett Lumber Co. passing some great fall colors.
