Metrobus 40 Visitor
Seen entering Studley on the way back to Reading after attending the Metrobus 40th anniversary is a perserved dual door example. Following closely behind is the backup vehicle, a Mercedes Sprinter.
Preserved Reading Buses' WRD 162T (162) is seen on the A435 while coming off the Birmingham Road onto the Alcester Road while returning to Redditch. Behind was BU64 MWM (380) which was acting as a support vehicle. In the left of the photo is the needle design sculpture in the centre of the roundabout. This is because Studley used to be a big part of the needle making industry, with the site of the CoOp Food store (not far behind where I was stood) being built on part of the former needle factory site. WRD162T was new in July 1979 to the council owned company, whereas BU64MWM was new in Avis Budget airport parking and purchased by Reading secondhand. The MetroBox sounded rather nice and when I caught it on a journey at the museum I was very impressed with it. Being used to just West Midlands examples, it was initially weird for me to see a dual door example, but still nice none the less. 162 is a MkI MCW (Metro Cammell Weymann) Metrobus. 380 is a Mercedes Sprinter minibus.
