LINAC Ceramic Insulator on GUN

Gun Cabinet View.

In this cabinet we have the Gun Triode ( localised in the ceramic insulator ).

The Gun is the electrons source of the accelerator. It defines the pulsed characteristics of the electron beam ( duration, rate ).

The Gun Triode is a base of a thomson TH 338 triode. It is an "oxyde coated" type, heated by a 40 W tungstene filament. It is heated by a DC voltage to avoid a electron beam modulation.

To start the operation of the gun, 15 minutes are necessary for the warm-up of this cathode.

The anode is the accelerator body, at the earth potential. The gun's cathode and grid are referenced to a negative high voltage of -80 kV. Considering this, in short pulse mode, negative pulses are applied on the gun's cathode to get it conductive.
