Kick Ass and Chew Bubblegum Shake!

"I have come here to chew bubblegum and kick ass... and I'm all out of bubblegum." In the late 80s Rowdy Roddy Piper smashed all kinds of coconuts on the silver screen in John Carpenter's They Live. A cult classic that Piper would star in after meeting Carpenter at Wrestlemania III. In this film, Piper would play a blue collar tough man who takes on a whole race of ugly, invading aliens that eerily control the masses with the use of subliminal messaging in every media facet available. Chock-full of memorable action scenes and one liner's, it's one of Piper's most iconic lines from the film that I used as inspiration for my Sugar Slam IV Entry.

Starting from the bottom we have a large glass, it's base filled with strawberry Sour Straws intended to mimic the movie's aliens' exposed muscle tissue. Next we have the shake itself, a few cups of ice cream mixed with a few table spoons of blue raspberry snow cone syrup and some blue food coloring that resemble the aliens' blue tinted flesh. This now tangy yet sweet dessert is topped off with a raspberry puree that begins to swirl and mix with the blue cream, yet another homage to the creatures' blue and red skin. Finally the shake is garnished with whipped cream, red and blue gum balls (obviously), Strawberry Pop Rocks that give each drink a nice Roddy Piper styled kick in the ass, and a few more Sour Straws on a skewer.

Now if anyone has any doubts about this entry with its movie theme let's "put the glasses on" and see that They Live is essentially "Hot Rod" Rowdy Roddy Piper uncovering a secret alien plot to take over the world, and the headstrong wrestler justifiably "changing the questions" on their asses! It's also common knowledge among fans that many of Piper's one liners came from old lists he'd make for promo ideas, and let's not forget the 9 minute, impromptu street fight Piper has against Keith David! They Live is an awesome movie that is a clever jab at how our world works in 1986 and even now a days, but it still brings with it a 1980s wrestler solving problems the only way he knows.
