Walter C. Glines, ca. 1910, posing in a backbend position. Glines performed as a contortionist and trapeze artist for the Ringling Bros. Circus for several years before opening his grocery business, Gline's Penny Grocery, located at 111 S. Neil Street, Champaign, Illinois. Upon his retirement in 1956, Glines continued to perform as a circus clown, nicknamed "Koko the Clown" well into his seventies.
