2013 BP soccer Pink Out
For the past five years, the Broadalbin-Perth boys' soccer program's Patriot Pink Out has been as much about increasing breast cancer awareness and raising funds for the American Cancer Society as it has been about playing the game. The Patriot Pink Out soccer match has become a huge community event to help increase awareness about cancer and pay tribute to those community members that have battled or are currently battling cancer. Each year, the game has been dedicated to individuals that have taken this disease head on and have beaten it or are currently fighting it. They have been a source of strength and inspiration to many and their courage gives us all hope.
Both the junior varsity and varsity soccer teams wear pink uniforms and play with pink soccer balls for this event.
The Patriot Pink Out started in 2009, when the boys' soccer team dedicated its season to high school principal Robin Blowers, who was battling cancer at the time. Blowers' cancer is currently in remission.
Since 2009, the Patriot Pink Out has raised approximately $15,000.00 for cancer research. It is a tremendous community event with a festival atmosphere and certainly one of the biggest highlights of all Section 2 sports in the New York State Capital District area.
