TastingBritain.co.uk - Cocktails In The City Launch @ Hoxton Hotel, Shoreditch, London

Tasting Britain got the chance to preview the launch of 2016âs Cocktails In The City which was held at The Hoxton Hotel in Shoreditch. In case you missed the memo, CITC is deservedly one of Londonâs most exciting drinking opportunities/2 day cocktail parties - and is an opportunity for many of the Big Smokeâs top bars to get together and show us what theyâre made of. Itâs super convenient for the savvy/discerning Barfly too - CITC cocktails usually work out to be cheaper than they would if youâd headed down to one of the bars individually, and getting all of these guys together under one roof means that you donât have to travel far to try your next cocktail.

In attendance this year was a collective that reads a little like London bar royalty: Cahoots, Coq DâArgent, Hush, The Whip, The Looking Glass Cocktail Club, Dishoom, Powder Keg Diplomacy, Gaucho, 68 & Boston and maaaany more. As usual, each bar is matched up with a spirit brand, and tasked to come up with a new and exciting âsignatureâ cocktail. Results will vary, of course, but even if youâre a picky bugger: statistically speaking, the odds are that one of these new cocktails will work for you!

This yearâs CITC was held at the prestigious/historic/Grade II listed One Marylebone (which is in Marylebone, in case you were curious... ) - which means 4 floors of debauchery/responsible drinking and unusual mixology. It also included a rooftop whisky and cigar terrace, experimental cuisine (not sure what THAT entails!), chocolate pairing workshops, various DJs (including Andy Bird, owner of Love Fever Records) and two international bars who had come all the way to London to make some money and tickle some tastebuds (Little Red Door from Paris and Door 74 from Amsterdam). Plus The splendid Robin Collective who brought "breathable booze, plus alcoholic sorbets and ice creamâ. All good really!
