Tire Trouble

C-FBGY, a Viking DHC-6-400 Twin Otter, sitting on runway 33 at Toronto Buttonville Municipal Airport in Markham, Ontario. Its port side main gear's tire was severely damaged and the aircraft was later towed back to its hangar.

Serial number 895 began its career as CC-AMM with Barrick Servicios Mineros Ltda. of La Serena, Chile on September 30, 2014. It became C-FBGY with 994748 Ontario Inc. of Toronto, Ontario on September 16, 2019. Both of those companies are subsidiaries of Barrick Gold Corporation of Toronto - the world's second largest gold mining company.

This aircraft departed Buttonville on March 6, 2023 and flew west to Springbank Airport in Calgary, Alberta by March 7. It had stopped at Thunder Bay, Ontario and Brandon, Manitoba on its way west. After getting long range fuel bladders installed, it departed Springbank on March 14. It then visited Boise, Idaho; Las Vegas, Nevada; Santa Maria, California; Hilo, Hawaii; and Majuro, Marshall Islands before reaching Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea on March 21.

On March 24, C-FBGY was removed from the Canadian Civil Aircraft Register. It then became P2-AXL with Tropicair Limited of Port Moresby.
