Marvellous Mistaya
Yesterday my dad and I tried to reach the remote Capricorn lake tucked in behind Mistaya Lake. We didn't make it as the terrain was very tough and slow going. We spent about half our time hiking in sandals either along the shallows of the lake to avoid bushwhacking or during the numerous creek/river crossings. The access to Capricorn Lake follows a rather hazardous canyon with exposure to rockfall and difficult boulders to climb over. We turned around shortly after entering the canyon as we were already 4 hours in. Plus we got caught in a thunderstorm for at least half an hour, and had to wait it out on a sketchy slope... It's quite an unforgiving environment, yet beautiful all the same. I'd love to go back, but the canyon looked too challenging for us. Anyways, in the morning before all the chaos happened, here was the stunning view at the inlet entering Mistaya Lake. Tons of fireweed blossomed along the shore of the lake. The sheer abundance of flowing streams and wildflowers was something that I had never seen before; it was incredible! I made no hesitation to walk out into the water to get this photo as there were many more creek crossings to come later in the day ;)
