John O Groats is getting a makeover to rid itself of its image as a carbuncle on the end of the earth. They have built a few modern visitor attractions where you can get really good ice cream and admire local crafts but it's not pretty. The new wooden holiday lodges look supermodern but, coupled with recent kit buildings, only really make the place look less of a permanent destination.
