Backyard Toads

Two of our backyard American toads share a rock by the koi pond. It is mating season, and for several days (and nights) the male toads had entertained us with their loud mating calls. Each male has a different vocal pitch and the chorus of several of these toads singing at once was truly joyful. And loud! Their choruses were heard all over the neighborhood, hoping to attract mates from surrounding areas. After about five days of toad song they became quiet again, and the toads are once again hiding, so hopefully mating was successful. Backyard wildlife.
