Miss me?
I was beginning to think that I would not see any calliope hummingbirds this year as they were absent from our feeders. My concern turned to elation as I saw one within this past week. Yesterday I was able to get glass on.a male and here he shows off that beautiful gorget. According to Cornell Labs' All About Birds the calliope is the smallest long distance migrant in the world, traveling over 5,000 miles between breeding and wintering grounds. It is North America's smallest bird and weighs about the same as a ping pong ball. And yes - I did miss you!
My sincere thanks to all who spend the time to view, like or comment on my photos. It is much appreciated!
